One More Month!

I only have one month left of bachelorhood. I’ll be a married man 30 days from now. It’s pretty exciting!

All the wedding plans are done. The tuxes have been ordered, the invitations were sent out and the RSVPs have been coming in. We’re almost to the point of “let’s get this thing over with already.” I’m not really getting nervous, at least not yet anyways. I’ve been with my fiancee for almost 4 years now, so there’s really no surprises. We know what we’re getting with each other :-)

The only hiccup we’ve had so far is the hotel room we booked for the wedding night lost our reservation. I called them yesterday to confirm we had a reservation and the lady was like “ummm, we don’t have you in the computer.” I had booked the room over the phone like 3 months ago, so I didn’t have an email confirmation. I was pretty pissed because I specifically remember booking the room and giving those fools my credit card. I checked my credit card statement and noticed they never charged me, so I didn’t mind rebooking the room… but this time I did it online so I’d have proof. We got an awesome hotel room with a view of the St. Johns River and since it’s a wedding night stay we get free breakfast in bed!

I’m definitely ready to be a married man. Being engaged for a year is such a long time. If you’re a new reader to this blog, check out the honeymoon post. We’re very excited about the week long stay in paradise.

I Thought Online Poker is Illegal in the US?

US Laws confuse me sometimes.

I like to play poker every now and then. We have a legal poker room not too far from my house. I’m not good or anything, I just enjoy the entertainment you get out of it.  Well, I’ve always had accounts with Ultimate Bet and Full Tilt Poker just to play the free games. I hadn’t been on there in awhile, so last night I wanted to check it out. I decided to look at the Real money games and was quite surprised to see 90% of the people playing in there are from the United States.

What’s going on here? As far as I know, online poker in the United States is illegal. How can so many people be playing it? Why are they not scared to show they’re from the US?

Maybe I missed something in the law? Maybe there is a loop-hole?

There’s so many Americans in there playing for real money. It’s fun to watch the high rollers in the 300/600 NL games betting thousands of dollars each hand. Those people live in a different world than I do.

I never really understood why gambling is illegal in America but legal pretty much everywhere else in the world. America is supposed to be the land of the free, right? So why can the government tell us what we can and can not do with our hard earned money. If someone wants to play a game of skill, like poker, with other consenting adults then what is the big deal. Shouldn’t that be your right? Ughhh.. like I said, US Laws are confusing.

Schick Quattro Razors Suck

The other day I got a free Schick Quattro razor packaged in with an order from Amazon. Normally I shave with a Gillette Mach 3 Turbo (which is awesome). Well, this morning I decided to test out the Schick, after all it has 4 blades compared to the 3 of the Mach 3… so how bad can it be?

Based on the title of this post, you probably already know how my review is going to turn out. Basically, to keep it short, the Schick Quattro sucks. Not only did it cut my chin and neck in several places but it left a terrible razor burn. Try to picture me scrambling around the bathroom trying to find towels to wipe all the blood off my face because it’s starting to sting.

I’m not sure if it’s all the razor’s fault or if I had such a bad reaction to it because my body was so used to the Mach that it didn’t know how to handle the Schick. Whatever the cause of the suckiness, I won’t be going back. I’ll be sticking with Gillette for the foreseeable future. After all, it’s “the best a man can get.”

Disclaimer: I know this post has nothing to do with web development and what not, but I just had to warn everyone to stay away from this razor.

The craze of national lottery is huge contributing factor in the popularity of blackjack and other gambling games. People have started confusing the lottery with games of risk.

Apple iPhone Update

Getting an iPhone was one of the best decisions I ever made. I had asked for it as a Christmas present from my parents and am so glad they got it for me. I’m literally on it all day. One thing I’ve been hesitant to do is jailbreak my iPhone so I can install third party applications. There are so many apps out there that do amazing things. I’m just itching to get my hands on them. However, I also want to keep my phone clean and not mess with it unless installs are official.

Yesterday, the first day of MacWorld, was a good day for iPhone users. Not only did Apple release version 1.1.3 for the iPhone, but they said we’ll see native apps by February. Apple released the Software Developers Kit to developers so they can create awesome apps that really push the power of the iPhone to the edge. Most likely these new apps will be available for download via iTunes.

Yesterday’s iPhone upgrade included the following:

  • Google Maps with Location
  • Webclips - website bookmarks on your home screen. Clips will remember where you zoomed/panned to, and you are able to create up to 9 of them.
  • Multiple-Contact SMS

While these are all nice add-ons (especially the webclips), I really wanted to see a MMS capability added. Can you really believe that iPhones can’t send pictures via text message? I mean phones made 5 years ago could do that. I can take a picture and send it to someone’s email, but I can’t send the picture in text to another phone. So people without Blackberrys or iPhones really have no way to instantly get a picture I take to their phone. There’s no doubt in my mind MMS will be available as a downloadable app next month, I just want it now and feel it’s long overdue.

What do you think about the iPhone upgrade? What are you looking to see in the future?

Behind On My Magazines

I love reading magazines, they’re more suited for someone with a shorter attention span like me. I can get into books, but it much be something that really interests me. Magazines are nice because the articles aren’t long and there’s lots of pictures.

I currently subscribe to 4 different magazines. Thanks to Delta, you can actually use skymiles to buy magazines instead of airline miles. So I took them up on that offer and subscribed to Inc, Forbes, Wired, and Entrepreneur all for free. The problem with getting 4 new magazines every month is finding time to read them!

I usually save Wired for toilet reading material. The articles in that magazine aren’t as in depth. I mostly read this one to check out the cool gadgets and stuff. Entrepreneur is probably my favorite because I enjoy reading the success stories and ideas that so many people have.

It’s hard to believe that I’ve had about 10 days of vacation and haven’t found any time to read a magazine. I haven’t even flipped through Forbes yet. I’ll probably bring it to work with me to read during my lunch break. It’s the only way I’ll find time.

Christmas Is Over

Today is the 27th, and Christmas is officially over in my house. We took down all the decorations, threw out the tree and cleaned the house. You might say ‘wow that was fast’, but in my house, we like to keep things organized and clean and that means throwing out a dead Christmas Tree.

I know I haven’t blogged in like a week. It’s been a nice vacation away from the harsh demands of blogging. While I am still on vacation from my real job (our offices are closed until January 2…. nice huh?), I am trying to get back into the swing of things with my websites. I haven’t done any work online in quite a few days. I sorta feel bad or guilty for not working.

If any of you were wondering how my Christmas went, it was very good! One of the best ever. I got a lot of awesome gifts including a new iPhone. I can’t believe I’ve been living the past few months without one. I literally haven’t put this thing down. I almost wrote this blog post from my iPhone. It’s the best device I’ve ever had. The Wifi connection it gets is about as fast as my computer. It makes browsing the web very convient. Even the EDGE network is pretty fast. Just the other night I was at dinner and we decided to go to a movie, so I pulled up some movie times on my phone in about a minute. It’s great.

I also got a lot of clothes, and a couple of Xbox 360 video games…including Guitar Hero 3 and Assassin’s Creed. I haven’t opened Assassin’s Creed yet, but will probably jump into that game tonight.

Like I said, it was a great Christmas. I pretty much got everything I could have asked for. But now it’s over. The big family feasts and fun days are over. It’s back to work for me.
