Don’t Pay For E-Books

Here’s a tip for all the newbies out there. Don’t ever pay for an E-book promising to help make you thousands of dollars by exploiting the secrets of millionaire internet marketers. If you read an E-book title along those lines then you can immediately pass it off as a rip-off. All you will get in these e-books is regurgitated crap and nothing you can’t find on the internet for free anyways.

One webmaster got sick of all the e-books. Jon, the owner of Wicked Fire, created a thread in his forum specifically for giving away all these treasured e-books for free. It’s his way of protesting to the people who help ruin the internet. Jon has received death threats and emails threatening to sue him over this list of free e-books. You can find gems like Duvet Dollars, Day Job Killer, and Google Money Pro. Odds are if you’re looking at buying a “make money online” e-book, you will find it for free in this forum thread. There are currently 37 pages dedicated to providing people with the e-books for free.

I’m not saying ALL e-books are crap, but 95% of them are, especially the ones that try to make you pay for it. Now, you will have to be a member of Wicked Fire in order to get the e-books, but that shouldn’t stop you… registration is free and open to the public. I hope by reading this, I’ve helped save you money!

The 4 Hour Work Week

Does a 4 hour work week sound like an inconceivable dream to you? Tim Ferriss, author of the bestselling book The 4 Hour Work Week, doesn’t think so. The man is living the dream. He’s living my dream. What would you do if you could escape the 9-5 job, live anywhere, do anything, and join the ‘new rich’?

Matt Propst suggested I pick up The 4 Hour Work Week from Amazon. I checked it out (here) and decided to buy a copy.

I’m only about 4 chapters in so I can’t give you a thorough review just yet, but from what I’ve read it’ going to be a very interesting read. What Ferriss is telling the readers is that you can be rich even if you only make $50,000 a year. Making 50k a year but being able to do what you want, when you want, and where you want is more valuable than someone who makes $250k a year but works 70 hours a week and is on call 24/7. Which life would you rather have?

The book promises to teach you how to focus on your goals and not waste time dilly dallying around (something I have a problem with).

It preaches that we need to outsource our work so we can take adventures and plan mini-retirements. Why wait until your 65 years old to start having fun? Start living life on your own terms and pick up his book.

Magazines You Should Read

A lot of people out there love to read, they just don’t have the time or attention span needed to complete a book. That’s where magazines come in. I love reading magazines, unlike a lot of people who just like looking at pictures.

In today’s blog post I’m going to list a couple magazines that I enjoy reading, and hopefully sway you to pick them up from time to time. All the magazines listed here are business related, mostly because that’s what I’m interested in. I can always go to ESPN for sports news and I’m not into gossip.

Money Magazine - One of two magazines I have a subscription too. Money Magazine is the one magazine I recommend everyone pick up. It’s not so much about making money abd business ideas as it is about investing properly and getting out of debt. What I love about Money is that it deals with real people with real problems. They are real stories, not something concocted by an editor because it will sell more. Example articles are “He’s spender, she’s a saver” - a perfect article for me in my relationship, except I’m the saver. The featured article on this month’s issue is “Everything You Always Needed to Know About Money - But Now You’re Too Old to Ask”. It’s a great magazine to help put your financial life together.

Entrepreneur Magazine - Now, who in our business field wouldn’t love this magazine? Last month’s issue was the “28th Annual Franchise 500″. It listed America’s top 500 franchises, with Subway of course being #1, Dunkin Donuts #2, and McDonald’s at #9. The magazine isn’t just about franchises though, it is about small business and entrepreneurship in general. There are many stories in every issue about real life people and how they started their businesses. It gives advice on how to raise capital and pay off debts. It also gives advice on future business ideas and more. This one is also the other magazine I subscribe too.

Men’s Health - I subscribed to Men’s Health for almost 3 years, but just recently ended my subscription in December. I’m not as big into working out as I used to be. I just can’t seem to find the time anymore. However, Men’s Health is not all about working out. Health is a major portion of the magazine, but it also focuses on men’s lifestyle, relationship issues and financial advice. I always enjoy reading the relationship articles and find that a lot of them help solve issues in my own (mostly communication breakdowns on my part). There are also great fashion tips for those of you who can’t dress yourselves and a section for gadget’s & toys.

Well those are the three magazines that I recommend to all my readers. You will find different info in every one of them. I could have also listed Business Week and Forbes, but they are not personal enough for me. I enjoy the real life stories, and while the people in Forbes are real, they aren’t really real … know what I mean? I’m more interested in reading about the people who struggle and the people who earned their from through hard work and small business, not the high class billionaire celebs from Forbes. Forbes also only tells one side of the story, the rich side. They don’t ever talk about the failures.

Why Does Donald Trump Want me to be Rich?

Why does Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki (besting selling Rich Dad Poor Dad author and real estate mogul) want me to be right? That is a very interesting question. Why did two of the best selling business and personal finanance authors decide to collaborate on one book? The book is called “Why We Want You to be Rich” and its the next book on my reading list.

My girlfriend picked this book out for me for Christmas, and I’m just now getting to it. I have seen Trump books in the book stores many times. It’s hard to miss his face if you walk down the business book isle. However, I’ve never picked one of them up. I have read Kikosaki’s famous Rich Dad Poor Dad over last summer. So as you can imagine I was excited when I finally picked the book up last night.

So what’s this book about? Why do they want us to be rich? Why would Trump want to tell his secrets to wealth? The main reason why is because America is in a world of crap (keepin’ is family friendly) in the next couple of years. Why in the next couple of years? Because the first wave of 75 million baby boomers are going to begin retiring.

Americans are grown up with an entitlement mentality. They expect the government to help them out. The problem lies with Social Security and Medicare and other government funded things. The baby boomer generation paid social security tax, however there just isn’t going to be any money for the government to pay them because there aren’t enough people in my generation working and paying taxes.

Trump and Kiyosaki are both teachers. Theyboth have enough money to retire today and have their great grandchild they haven’t even had yet live wealthy their entire lives. They don’t keep working for the money. The don’t write books and go to seminars and make TV shows or videos games for the money. They do it because they want to fix our society, and the best way to do it is to teach people how to be rich.

The first step in the process is to get rid of this entitlement mentality. “Problems aren’t the issue, “Kiyosaki said. “We all have money problems…even you and I. It’s how we solve the problem that’s the issue.” People need to stop expecting the government to just give them a handout. People need to go out there and create their own wealth.

I’m only about 40 pages deep into the book, but that’s that jist of what I understand so far. As I read more and more, I will update you on what’s happening and more reasons why Trump and Kiyosaki want us to be rich.

The Millionaire Next Door

For my birthday, one of the gifts my girlfriend got me was a book called The Millionaire Next Door. I asked for this book because I’ve heard so many good things about it, not to mention it’s been a New York Times best seller for years. I’m only about 2 chapters through it but already I have learned some amazing statistics about the make up and habits of todays American millionaires.

The book isn’t a tell-all book on how to get rich quick. It’s not a biography of celebrity millionaires. From what I’ve read so far, the stories are about self-made first generation millionaires…your mechanic shop owners, manufactured homes dealers, and other small business owners. It talks about the people you see on the street that you think are blue collar, but are actually worth $5 million. The book talks about people who are really wealthy, not the high income/high spenders that the media portrays as wealthy.

Just because someone makes $200,000 a year doesn’t make them wealthy. You have to know how to invest your money and put it to good use. If you make $200,000 a year as a lawyer, but have a high lifestyle ($80,000 Mercedes, $10,000 watch, $5,000 suits and so on) you make look like you’re extremely wealthy, but in reality when you’re spending $180,000 of that $200,000, you’re actually not worth that much.

The book just puts into perspective about who the true millionaires are. It’s not saying that professional athletes aren’t millionaires, it’s just saying that based on their age and annual income, they are not wealthy.

I can’t really get into much of the book because I’m only about 40 pages deep. I just have it finished in a week or so, and then I will give it a full review. If you want to read more, just check out the Amazon reviews provided in the link above.
