The Jim Karter Strategy

It’s amazing what you can find when just clicking random links in forum signatures.

Yesterday I was browsing DigitalPoint and just clicking on people’s blogs and signature links. I came across a DP user named JimKarter and followed a link to his blog at www.jimkarter.com. Apparently he is some big-time guru that I had never heard of. His December 3rd post shows November earnings of $45,000. WOW!

Naturally this intrigued me, so I continued to look around his blog. I hit the ‘Most Read Posts’ section first and ended up at an interesting post titled “My Link Building Strategy.” Well, if this guy is making $45,000 a month then checking out his link strategy might not be such a bad idea.

I’m not going to get into details about his strategy here. You can read it all on the link I gave you above. But what he does is list out exactly what to do every 30-45 days and how you need to do it. His link building strategy takes up to a year before you start seeing big results. The goal here is to make like 20, or 50, or 100 of these types of sites. You won’t make huge amounts of money from just 1, but if you have 100 of these sites each making $5/day … then you’re at $500/day or $15,000 a month.

I’m going to try his link building strategy. I already bought two domains. The first site I’m working on is called Golfing Tips 101. I figured a site on golf tips would be easy to come up with the 100 content pages. Golf is a sport I play quite well, so I’ll be able to write the content myself.

I’m going to follow his method exactly. No more, no less. An of course I’ll track the results here on my blog for everyone to see. So today, I just need to add the wikipedia links and I’ll be set.

Check it out for yourself. If you decide to try it, let me know in comment so I can watch your site grow too.

Fantasy Football Playoffs

I’m sure some of you outside of America, or those of you who don’t care about sports, may not know what fantasy football is. You basically draft a team of real NFL players and you get points based on their performance every week. We have 12 teams in my fantasy football league, and we’re all ‘real life’ friends, so it makes it very fun and ultra competitive. I’m a huge fantasy football nerd and spend way too much time on it.

This week marks the first week of the Fantasy Football playoffs in our league. Since I won my division with an 8-5 record, I will be playing this week against the worst Wild Card winner. I’ve beat this guy already twice this year, and shouldn’t have a problem beating him a third time so I advance to the next week. If you lose in the playoffs, you’re out.

Check out my team:

QB: Jon Kitna, Jay Cutler

RB: Larry Johnson, Travis Henry, Chester Taylor, Kolby Smith, Selvin Young, Ron Dayne

WR: Braylon Edwards, Steve Smith, Marques Colston, Chris Chambers, Andrew Walter

TE: Antonio Gates

K: Nick Folk

DEF: Broncos

There are definitely areas I could have improved on, but my team was solid enough to make the playoffs. Losing Larry Johnson for the season really hurt me. But good news came out this week… Travis Henry won’t be suspended, so that helps a lot.

In the fives years my group of friends have been playing fantasy football, I’ve only one the Superbowl once… that was like 2 years ago when I had Larry Johnson, Shaun Alexander, and Tiki Barber (all of them had completely insane years that year).

I’m not the favorite going into the playoffs this year, but I could possibly win it all if my players get hot. I especially need Steve Smith to return to form.

Photos You Can Use

A lot of webmasters use pictures on their websites. And a lot of the time they get copyrighted photos from Google Images or MSN Images. Most photos you find on the internet are not legally allowed to be copied and used on your website without the permission of the photographer. This is especially true for pictures of celebrities. Sure everyone uses pictures without permission, but that doesn’t mean it’s right.

There are places you can find legal pictures to use. Flickr is one of my favorites. They have millions of photos that a perfectly legal to use on a commercial website. Here’s how you find them:

  • From the Flickr home page, enter your keyword into the search
  • After you click ‘Search’ your results will come up
  • From there click ‘Advanced Search’
  • Next click ‘Only search Creative Commons-licensed photos’
  • Then click ‘find content to use commercially’

Then all the results that come up after that search are able to be used on your website. The box you click that says ‘use commercially’ means that it can be used on a website with ads on it.

Another really cool website you can use to find Creative Commons photos is called Yotophoto.

So next time you’re looking for cool pictures for a website or wallpapers, check out the legal Creative Commons photos first. You may surprise yourself with all the high quality pics on Flickr that you can find.
