Movies I Want To See

It’s Friday, so let’s have some video fun. Some of you know I am a sucker for a good movie. I keep seeing trailers for some awesome titles coming out. I thought it would be fun to share with you 4 movies I’m looking forward to seeing in the next few months and into early 2008. Each trailer is only like 2 minutes.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

I Am Legend

Untitled movie by JJ Abrams

10,000 BC

Of course there are others, like Beowulf, but I didn’t want to load up a post full of Youtube Videos.

Looking for Guest Posters

As I concentrate more and more on developing and promoting the websites that make me money (this blog is not one of them), I seem to be losing track of posting quality content on a daily basis here. In the goals I posted a month or so ago, I said I wanted to post high quality topics that generated an interest for the readers. However, I’ve failed to deliver.

Creating a high quality blog post can take time… some bloggers I’ve seen spend 1-2 hours one a single post. That is time I just don’t have. Sometimes I can’t find 15 minutes to post here. When you work full-time, you’re pretty much booked throughout the day to get things done on your websites. It’s very tough.

The solution? Guest Bloggers. I’m sitting on a PR5 blog with about 100 uniques/day and 100 RSS subscribers. Those are decent numbers. So if you’re interested in getting your name out there, and want to guest blog on this site, simply send me an email via the contact form on my contact page.

By guest blogging you can give you will get your name out there, and you will get a couple of linkbacks from my PR5 blog. You will also drive some traffic to your site. You can write about anything in the world of online business. Marketing, promotions, business, blogging, tips & tricks, …basically anything you want so long as its clean and legit content.

You’re posts don’t have to be long either. Just like mine is fine.

So if you’re interested, let me know. I’m on MSN too so we can chat. I’ll like timestamp guest posts to be published for days when I don’t have time to post, or can’t think of anything to write about. If you have any questions, leave a comment.

Recent Posts Plugin

I finally decided to add a Recent Post Plugin to my blog. You will see it in the sidebar below the Top Commentators.

Only the Recent Post Plugin I added is not really a plugin at all. No downloads involved. No uploaded files or manipulating funny codes. Just copy and paste the code from this wordpress recent plugin page into your sidebar.php, and that’s it. All done. It was the simplest add-on I’ve ever done.

The only issue with this add-on is it also includes recent pages added. I rarely, if ever, create new pages so this isn’t a problem for me.

Ways to Have Others Promote For You

Promoting a website can be a very daunting task. It can take hours and hours of time. Maybe it’s about time you cut back on promoting your website, and let others do the dirty work for you.

Below is a list of a couple ways that others can promote your website online for free.

E-Mail Signature - Have people you know…friends, family, members on your website include a link to your website in their email signatures.

Forum Signatures - Ask everyone you know to include your link in their forum signatures.

Affiliate Program - Create an affiliate program and offer your affiliates some kind of bonus for selling/attracting visitors to your website.

Avatars - Design an awesome avatar with a link to your site in it. Let people use it on forums.

Wordpress Themes - Design or sponsor a wordpress theme so your link is in the footer. Other people will download your theme and spread it around the net like a virus.

Blogs - Ask people you know to blog about your website. Often times I find myself not having any ideas for a post and would be glad to promote my friends websites.

Chain Letters - Start a stupid/funny chain letter and send it to everyone on your list. Make sure you add that ‘If you don’t send this letter to 10 people your dream won’t come true” at the bottom.

Social Bookmarking - Have all your friends stumble your website.

Word of Mouth - Tell others to talk about your website. Word of mouth is a powerful tool you need to take advantage of.

They all sound pretty simple and obvious, but I guarantee that you aren’t doing all of them. Let other people help do the work for you.

Find It Quick Ads

This blog post is proudly sponsored by Pimp Myspace and Myspace Tweaks

You may have noticed I put new advertisements on my blog yesterday. If I want to hit $300/mo from this blog alone by December 31st, then I have to place ads on it.

In the past I’ve tried Kontera ads, however they made my pages load very slow and had sucky payments. Over the past few months an account representative at FindIt-Quick.com has been emailing me asking me to sign up with them. So I finally took them up on their offer and created an account. I have no idea how they pay out compared to other advertising companies, but I want to lave these inline ads on my blog for a few days before I pass judgement.

FindItQuick is an interesting company. In addition to serving inline and contextual ads, they also have their own version of Yahoo Answers. Except with them, you get paid $2.50 for every answer you submit that gets accepted. Potential to make some decent money if you take the time to research correct answers.

I haven’t decided yet if I want to run their contextual ads on any of my sites. Google and YPN perform very poorly on some sites I own. I can’t imagine them being any worse. The best thing about their ads are they pay in two ways. You earn at least 0.10 CPM or more based on CTR rates and you also earn from each click on the ads based on bid prices.

I’ll have more to report on this in the coming days. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on why they are seeing ads on my blog now.

Ask David Batch #5

If it seems like it’s been awhile since I’ve done an Ask David post, well…it has. That’s because I didn’t get any questions in my email box. This past week though, I received 3 questions that I can write about.

Question #1 comes from Sean. What hosting do you use?

I currently have 2 dedicated servers. One is with JetNetHost and the other is with Spry. While I have experienced server problems with JetNet from time to time (most of the problems are at the datacenter, so it’s not really their fault), their customer service is second to none. Anytime there is an issue, I get a personal response within minutes and the problem is solved. When they said 24 hour live support, they mean it. Spry, I have never had to deal with since purchase. The server has been great.

Questions #2 comes from Greg of LoLLeR LAN. Do you think the new website DealDotCom.com will be as successful as Woot.com?

I’ll be perfectly honest. I haven’t given DeaDotCom for then 3 minutes of my time. I briefly looked at it and signed up (only because everyone else was). Although I’ve never used it, Woot.com has been around for a long time. While I do think you can make money from both websites, I don’t think DDC will surpass Woot in popularity or be as successful. Woot just has too big of a head start.

Question #3 comes from Richard of Blogger For Life. A while back you made a post about if you need a privacy policy. My question is do you have anything that generates “Terms and Conditions”? I run a website for my wife where she sells Jewelry online and we need a TOS.

I don’t have any tools that automatically generator a T&C for you, but I did find a few samples you can download. One is from BusinessLink, and it’s a UK site so be careful using that in the USA. Another example from Webzonetemplates.

Something else you could do is browse other similar online stores and look at their T&C. Don’t copy it word for word, but adjust it enough so it makes it unique to your site.
