Setting Blog Goals
Over the past year, I’ve often felt like this blog has no direction. Sometimes I write about personal happens, sometimes I give network updates, and other times I actually give tips to feelow webmasters. It’s time to give this blog some direction. I’m determined to turn my blog into something.
I’ve seen a lot of bloggers with less experience than me and in a shorter amount of time turn their blogs into money making machines with readerships in the hundreds and thousands. I want all of that for my blog. And honestly, I think my blog has enough potential to get it to where I want.
So what kind of goals am I setting for this blog? Three very simple ones:
- Make $300 a month by December 31st.
- RSS Readership in the 200s by December 31st.
- Daily Traffic in the 400s a day by December 31st.
That’s certain attainable, right?
I plan to do this the right way. One of the first steps I need to take is to put some ads back up on my blog. Can’t make $300/month without ads. I’m also going to increase my availability for paid reviews. ReviewMe and PayPerPost generate a lot of revenue with bloggers. And with a Pagerank of 5, I shouldn’t have a problem landing a few paid reviews. I’ll also increase the exposure of my featured links for sale. At $12/month each, I should be able to generate almost 1/4 of my goal from those links alone.
As far as increasing traffic and RSS subscribers… there’s one solid method of achieving this. Increase value and quality of my posts and increase quantity. Instead of posting pointless crap, I tend to post more topics that readers can use, such as how to’s and guides. I also will incorporate more screenshots when talking about specific methods on my own sites. And for those of you who come here for some personal posts… I have one word for you… pictures. I plan to add more person pictures to my blog.
It’s going to be a lot of work, but I’m up for the task. I plan to track my traffic, blog earnings, and keywords on a biweekly/monthly basis and share it with all my readers.
I want to take this seriously. If you see me slacking off at all, or not posting enough high quality articles, don’t hesitate to shoot me an email or message me on MSN. Don’t let me fall behind. Everyone needs outside motivation.

Good luck!
If you are slacking, I can bug you if you’re on Gmail.
(I don’t use MSN)
You could also add some more Adsense ads to the site. I noticed you only have one on your home page. Messing with the link colors could help too, but at the same time, I don’t think many web marketers click on each others ads.
Good luck though.
David, sounds like your on the right track! I myself find it hard sometimes to stay on track and focus on a particular goal, so maybe we can help each other.
Also, in regards to sl mention of more adsense ads, I’m not sure that is the way to maximize your profits. Yes, you want to make money but you also don’t want the ads to be intrusive to your readers. So keep the adsense to minimum and focus on paid reviews and affiliate sales. I truely think that is the way to go!
Good luck and let me know if you want to colloborate on any ideas.

You’re running a webmaster blog, get rid of those ads. No one is going to click them, especially since it’s summer and the advertisers are away.
ind something more profitable or sell ad space on that space to private advertisers.
Jake,
It’s not the fact that someone will click that ad. If David holds the ad space there while he builds his blog, and then over time increases traffic readers will become familiar with that ad spot and he can resell it to an affiliate for more than he is making from adsense.
I say leave it! It’s not hurting you!
I’m going to leave the adsense spot there for now to atleast test how it does. I’ve run adsense before in the past and had poor conversion rates on this site.
I’m not sure my blog has enough weight right now to sell that spot to a private advertiser.
Hey David,
You mention sending me an e-mail? I didn’t see anything in my inbox?
Good luck making your goals! I’ve had some similar goals set for myself in the recent past. I was previously posting a ton of unrelated content. That was basically throwing any contextual ads I had running into the 4th dimension.
I’ve also made posting frequency / quality goals for myself. I don’t always succeed, but just having the goals written down and visible is a great step. Kudos for actually publishing goals also… I haven’t quite taken that step yet.
Hi David,
All the best to your goal…
I am also learning how to increase my blog profitability too… if I can make 300-500 a month, I will be happy…
Thanks everyone!
@ Richard .. Ya I sent it a few days ago, I’ll resend it now.
Come on David, quit slacking. Let’s get with the program already. I wanna see some hustle out there.
It’s coming !! I promise!
