Early YPN Indications
Early Yahoo Publisher Network indictations are that it will be a huge success on Myspace Layout Pimper. I know that I haven’t even had YPN on my site for 2 full days yet, but I have seen some amazing results. Who would have thought that YPN would be so successful on a Myspace resource site when the ads aren’t targeted at all!
On January 29th, mid to late afternoon, I placed YPN on my site instead of Adsense. I didn’t add any units, I put them in the same exact spot. On that first day I earned $6.65 in about a half days work. I was impressed, but didn’t want to get too excited just yet. Maybe the newness factor attracted people to click on it??
So yesterday, the 30th, was my first full day of having YPN on my site. With 22,000 ad unit impressions, I earned a whopping $17.89! That is over 3x what I was earning on the same exact site with Adsense. It makes me wish I put YPN on there a long time ago.
Many commentors said I would earn more, and so far it seems like they were right! I’ll be interested to see if I can stay around that $17/day mark, or if it will fluctuate a lot. If it stays that high, then I will nearly double my monthly revenue just by switching the Yahoo.
I will certainly keep you posted on how this develops over the rest of today and tomorrow. If all looks good, I might switch my entire network (but keep geo-targeting).

Wow, now those numbers have made me sit up and take notice. If I could triple my earnings through YPN I would retire
Time for a test of my own me thinks!
that is wonderful, i hope it does keep up and you are successful with it.
Well done David. I expected you would have an increase with YPN. Congrats to you and I hope it improves from here.
In the larger scheme of things, I wonder what this means for YPN being truly competative with Adsense. I think these MS resource sites are a real test case, and it could mean several things.
Taking into account that YPN targetting is absolute cripe compared to Adsense, I wonder if YPN will do better in the longer term since publishers will migrate toward higher payments. Or could it mean that advertisers will flee YPN because they get a much lower ROI than on Adsense? If advertisers are getting just as good an ROI on YPN as they do on Adsense, even with the bad targetting, it can only mean one thing. Adsense is taking a huge cut of the revenues. It would have to be a much bigger cut than YPN. If this is the case, I think their ability to take such a large cut will be eroded over time as YPN and others improve their targetting.
Just wondering how all this will play out and hoping that YPN will step up to the plate in being a real competitor to Adsense, for diversity’s sake.
Hmm, I think I need to try out YPN. Is it still mega hard to get an account?
Marc - great observations. I have to imagine that people who advertise through YPN do not get a great ROI, escpecially on a Myspace site. Why would someone looking for myspace layouts have any interested in printer hardware?
Colin - I’ve had my YPN account for a year it seems like. I really don’t know how hard it is to get one.
Good Luck with YPN… they are currently only limited to US publishers. I hope they open up for international publishers soon.
Thats good news Lithman !! Great
I think it is fairly easy to get an account so long as you are US based and you have a text based site, Yahoo loves text. So if you have like an article site or something you should be able to get approved pretty quick. I did anyway.
I think i tried to set up an account a while ago but i dont know what happened, i remember the page saying “thank you for you submission…” but i dont think i ever got an email saying congrats or sorry…
