How Long Should an E-Book be?

I don’t have much going on today, so this will be a quick and painless post. The first thing I want to mention is that I am still unloading the crap in my portfolio. On today’s list is a Ryan Howard fan site, currently on sale at digitalpoint. Check it out here. The current bid is only $20. I am hoping to get like $60-$70 from it. That would make my day.

In ebook news… I was able to write 2 more pages of my book today, and hope to get 1 or two more done tonight. My goal is to have the book finished by Friday so I can have a few select people read it before I officially launch it on Monday. I still have not found a domain name for the website I will put up to sell the book. I also need to think of some unique marketing ideas to get this book out there.

Like I said I plan on listing it on clickbank so other webmasters can post my book for sale on their site. I will likely give anywhere from 30-40% commission per sale. So it will surely attract some niche publishers. Another way I want to market this book for sale is via Digitalpoint. It is not a webmaster book, so I doubt many people on there will buy it… but you never know! I will also visit tons of sites in my niche and email them about my book. I will offer them a free copy + commission if they agree to sell it on their site. And then there’s always Myspace. I will create a myspace account specific to my book and join some groups that are about this topic. I will then try to add everyone in those groups to my friends list. I will put book details on my profile and hope to get some sales from that.

If anyone has any other ideas on how to sell an ebook, let me know!

Site Sale and October Earnings

Good news everyone… I was able to sell Pet Cookies. Not like that was a big site or anything, but I needed some quick cash so I put that one up for sale in a 24 hour auction on digitalpoint. I was able to grab $100 for it. Not bad for a site getting 3-4 uniques/day with $0 Adsense revenue and $0 in sales.

I know I am always quick to sell of a site. I know that you’re supposed to give a site time to mature and build backlinks and content to make it profitable. But I am an instant gratification kind of guy. I have very little patience for anything, and I love that feeling of seeing $100 go into my paypal account for doing no work whatsoever. I know I won’t ever get wealthy flipping sites like this and just make a quick $100 here or a quick $80 there, but it is fun… and this is a hobby afterall, right?

Ok, let’s talk about October Earnings now

We can start with contextual advertising earnings. $293.63 in October Adsense earnings + $26 in Yahoo Publisher (except I can’t withdraw that money because I haven’t reached $100 in my account there).

Adsense/YPN - Total $319.

Sales - Total $975
Putterswap.com  - $300, MyspaceBypass.com - $600, FJDriver.com - $35, Random link sales - $40

Expenses - Total $394
Server and Hosting - $199 (damn proxy over charges!!), purchased links - $30, domain purchases - $40, custom headers - $80, joomla template - $35

By using those numbers I get a total profit of $900 even. By far my best month yet. This however is not the norm! I was extremely lucky this month by buying a domain for $7 and then turning around and selling it for $300 2 days later. I also sold a big earning site for $600. That does not happen every month.

Unless something drastic like that happens again in November, I would look for my earnings to drop back to around $300-400.

E-Book Update and New Site Launches

What a great weekend I had. It was my little sister’s birthday on Friday, so we had a great celebration with family. I had a lot of fun Friday night just hanging out, eating cake and stuff. Saturday morning I played in a breakfast golf tournament with my dad and brother-in-law. It was tons of fun. I love playing golf. Waking up at 6:50 am was kind of tough, but it was well worth it. My brother-in-law and I got some 10:00 am beers to get us going on the course. It didn’t help my game :-/

Saturday afternoon I watched the Gator football game. We beat Vandy (no surprise). Saturday night the whole family when to a Japanese Steak house, where the chefs cook on a big grill at your table. The entertainment is well worth the high price of the food. There were 9 of us there, including my girlfriend.

Sunday my friend and I head to the Jaguar game. It was pouring rain for most of the game, but luckily I was prepared and brought my poncho. The Jags whooped the Titans 37-7.

Ok, on to some network news…

E-Book Updates

The E-book I am writing is coming along just great. I am 5 pages deep and feel like I’m about 30-40% done with the book. Anywhere from 12-15 pages should be enough for me to publish it. I still need to think of a good title name and buy a domain to set up my ebook site where I will sell the book. Once I get all that set up I will let everyone know!

New Site Launches

Ok, now I am not a big Myspace fan. I don’t use myspace, and I don’t use myspace resource sites. However, you can’t ignore the money potential in these sites. Since I launched Layout Pimps, I haven’t touched it. I haven’t added any new content or anything. The only thing I did in the beginning was add like 20 links. Then it just sits there. It only makes me $1-2/day but that is some of the easiest money you can think of. It requires 0 work at all!!! 400-500 uniques a day and I don’t do a thing.

So I added two more myspace resource sites with the same goal in mind. To sit there and make me $1-2 a day without me doing any work. I don’t pay for advertisnig, I don’t send out bulletins. I will just let them sit there after I collect 20 or so link exchanges.

The two new myspace sites are both running the same script, with the same content and look the exact same.

Free Myspace Layouts and Myspace Login

I figure it will take probably 3 weeks or so for me to build up enough traffic to get to $1-2/day, but once I do.. it’s smooth sailing from there.

Well that’s it for today, tomorrow I will try to update you more on what’s happening with my other sites as well as give you an update on my October earnings report.

Site was sold…

Well I ended up selling FJDriver.com for $35. A little less than I was hoping for, but you really can’t expect much when it is just a domain and a phpbb forum :/ Besides I needed to clean out my portfolio. I have a few more domains/sites I’d like to get rid of too! I’m sure I’ll be listing them shortly.

I’m not sure if I have mentioned this before in a previous post, but I have always wanted to try writing an ebook and setting up a shop and selling it. Well, I have officially started my very first ebook. I have 2 pages done so far. I’m not going to reveal what it’s about until I finish it. This project has been given TOP priority for me. All other projects will be put aside until I finish this book. I am really excited about the potential of selling my own book and offering it for sale through clickbank so other people can sell my book on their website for a commission.

And as a special bonus (there’s always a bonus with ebooks right?) I will give a free copy to everyone that follows my blog. Granted, the ebook probably won’t apply to half of you, but regardless I want to share it with everyone.

Well, that’s pretty much it for today. I know it’s a short post, so I promise to write more tomorrow. Have a good day!

Didn’t even give it a chance…

Have you ever bought a domain with the intention of developing it? Or perhaps you even started to build a site, but got distracted and pushed it off to the side for awhile? Well, it happens to me… quite a bit actually.

I had purchased the domain FJDriver.com with the intentions of building a community portal for Toyota FJ enthusiasts. I installed the forum and the portal script, got a header and had the site physically appealing. However, I just put it aside for awhile. 1 month later and here we are. I’ve listed a dead, incomplete site for sale on digitalpoint. You can view the sale thread here.

I have way too many unfinished projects in my web portfolio. It’s time to clean out the little ones that I thought had promise, but I just don’t have the time for. This doesn’t mean the site will never be successful, it just won’t be made successful by me.

I have quite a few little side sites like this that I just couldn’t get into. Perhaps if I drove an FJ, or even liked them for that matter, it would have been easier to build content. That’s probably the biggest problem with getting bored with a site. You really do need to find a site you are interested in if you want to make it big.

I’ll keep you updated on the sale. If it sells for BIN $50, I will be amazed!
