Switching to my VPS
I finally took the plunge and bought a nice VPS yesterday afternoon. It comes with 300 gb/bandwith per month, so it should be plenty to host all my sites and then some. I can finally dump hostgator and skyhighhost and have more control myself. I have purchased my VPS from Servint.com They were highly recommended to me and haven’t disappointed me yet. I have called their tech support twice, both times the phone was answer in 3 rings or less. I have also emailed their support twice, and had a response in less than 1 hour.
I am very noobish when it comes to hosting. My first step is creating an account for every site I have… about 10 or so. The next step is uploading all the files and databases to those accounts. Once I have all the files transferred to the new server, I need to create nameservers and edit them all in the registrar. This is the confusing part for me, but tech support gave me a great tutorial so I can give it a try as soon as I get home from work. Unfortunately, that won’t be till 9:00 PM !! I have to work overtime tonight. Ugh!
I plan on having all my sites uploaded and have the nameservers switched over by tomorrow night. Once everything looks good I can cancel hostgator and skyhigh, and make my new monthly payment of $49.99. Seems a little steep I know. But I think this is the next step in the growing process. Getting rid of shared hosting. By this time in a couple months I might very well own my own server or two. $49.99/month won’t really be that much considering I am making nearly $15/day in Adsense alone. Hopefully I can sustain or even increase that figure.
Down Time
Because of switch in hosting, there may be some down time on this blog. If everything goes perfect there won’t be any down time, but in my experience nothing ever goes according to plan. Since I don’t know what I’m doing, I’ll likely botch something up and cause some downtime. NO worries though, I will be back on here blogging as soon as I can.
