Selling another Website

I’ve got bad news… man I hate having to sell websites, but unfortunately I need money to pay off my credit cards! The first website to go is Easy Golf Tips. My all unique golf tips website that I spent hours writing content for. I listed it for sale on DigitalPiont with a starting bid of $50. Bidding has already reached $60 in just 5 minutes. You can view the sale here.

I hate having to sell off my websites because of things going on in my personal life. I had to buy new tires for my car and took a trip to Ohio (plane ticket was $330!). I need to learn to separate my online business from my personal life expenses. That’s what forming an LLC can do for me. The only problem is now, I don’t have enough money to form the LLC. Will have to wait another month or two for that.

Could I make $10/day two days in a row? It looks like it. I’m at $8.70 as I right this post and still have 8 hours left in the day. I do not expect to reach $10/day on Saturday and Sunday because proxy sites do awful on weekends as most people are not in school or at work. I expect to get around $5-6 on each Saturday and Sunday.

That’s about it for now. I’ll keep you updated tomorrow with the sale!

Finally reaches $10/day

I have some good news and some bad news. Of course will start with the good first. Today marks the first time in history that I have passed $10/day in Adsense alone. In fact, as of right now I am at near $14. This is really weird to me because yesterday I only made like $6 or $7, and I haven’t done anything different. Most of the money today came from Myspace Bypass. I’ve had the same amount of traffic and clicks to the site, just somehow it’s making more money. And it’s not like I had a $5 click either. It’s just been slowly going up all day long. So now I know there is potential with my few sites to make $10/day. The challenge will be to make it consistent earnings.

Now for the bad news… and boy is it bad. My host for Myspace Bypass is kicking me! Apparently my site is hogging down all his cpu because it uses like 10-11 gigs of bandwith per day. He gave me 2 days to find a new host or he’s going to put all the fees on me. This sucks big time. Part of the sale included 1 month of free hosting. I’m upset with the way things have turned out, but at the same time I can’t be too mad because I have grown the site way beyond what he anticipated. I bought it at 200-300 uniques a day and now it’s at 1200-1300 a day. I think I have found a host that can support me for a reasonable price. So hopefully I can get the acocunt set up tomorrow and everything will be ok.

I also want to transfer the domain to my registerfly or Godaddy account. So that’s another $10 expense or so.

In other news, Joe Mauer has been indexed in Google and is receiving traffic already! 20 uniques yesterday, and probably around the same today. Traffic is coming from keyword searches like “joe mauer pictures” and “joe mauer fansite” (which I rank #1 for!). If I can get my Randy Moss site to be that successful in under a week I will be really happy!

That’s it for today! Wish me luck in finding a new host…

Blogging for Dollars

I don’t have much to say today, so I will leave you with an interesting article from Business 2.0. It is a long read, but well worth it. I’ll post an excerpt from the first paragraph.

Business 2.0: Blogging for Dollars

Michael Arrington is a partying kind of guy. While showing off his home in Atherton, Calif., he boasts about how he crammed 500 people into his one-acre backyard at a bash in February. Then there are the official parties, like the one he threw in mid-August at August Capital, a nearby venture firm. Arrington posted an open invitation on his website at 3 a.m. By sunrise, all 500 spots were taken; the onslaught of traffic crashed his site. “I knew it would be fast,” says Arrington, who houses so many out-of-towners in his ranch home that he often isn’t sure who’s crashing on which mattress on which floor in which room.

Busted Archive

I noticed the other day that the archive on my site isn’t working… damn blogger. I emailed them about the problem, however got some generic response with some copy/paste info that didn’t help me. I am hosting the site on my server, not on blogger.com, who I do use to power the site. Obviously the archive file path in the blogger control panel is not lined up right with the archive file path on my server. After playing around with the archive settings in the blogger control panel I still couldn’t figure it out. I posted help on the blogger support group and on digitalpoint and still have no response. If anyone can help me fix this problem, please send me a message on msn or email me. I’m losing valuable seo here.

In site news, I was able to add a header image (with the help of a friend) to my Joe Mauer Fan Site. I have kept up to date with posting on the site as well. Once I get a few more posts, I will go into marketing mode and trying to get some actual visitors to the site. Another fan site I have been working on is for Randy Moss. This site still needs a header and a picture section. Once those are up I should have enough content to start marketing as well. Most importantly, all the content on the site is unique, except the biographies which I got from wikipedia. However, all the daily blog posts are my own.

In other news, adsense is still doing well, I am over $7+ today with a couple hours left. I am looking to break $200 this month from adsense alone. This will be a huge achievement for me, as I will have nearly doubled my normal adsense/month income. Myspace Bypass also broke the 1,000 uniques/day mark today. I’m not sure if I can expect that traffic to increase or not. It seems like a lot to me and I haven;t even done any promotion for it. If I buy some myspace bulletins to a couple thousand people, my traffic might boom even more.

Remembering 9/11

Remembering 9/11
Before I get into my normal blog posting routine with site updates, I wanted to take a moment to remember and honor those civilians and servicemen who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and United Flight 93. 9/11 is a day that will live on in the history of the world. I will always remember what happened that day. I will never forget what I was doing when the towers fell.

It’s important to remember what America stands for. And that’s freedom. Terrorists on 9/11 tried to take that freedom away from us. Be proud and live your day the fullest. Fly an American flag on your front porch. Don’t let fear and terror stand in your way in living your everyday life. America was struck on her own soil, but we prevailed. The attacks united Americans and helped us appreciate what we have.

Once again, I ask you to take a moment or two to remember what happened on September 11th. Honor the courageous fire fighters and police officiers and military personnel that gave their lives rescuing people and protecting us. Don’t forget what it felt like to see this. Remember the the feelings you had inside.

I could go on and on about 9/11, however, I will get to a few site news. I launched a site over the weekend. I saw my earnings increase again because of football games. And a couple other small things.

Joe Mauer Fan Site
I am officially launching JoeMauer.info. For those of you who are not sports fans, Joe Mauer is the catcher for the Minnesota Twins. He also leads the American league in hitting. He gets a lot of searches/day, so I’m hoping I can establish myself as his number 1 fan site. The site is run on wordpress. I plan to update it daily with his performance stats as well as a few of my own comments to add a bit of uniqueness to it. This is the first of 4 sports fan sites I will be launching this week.

Adsense Earnings
My Adsense earnings for the weekend were up again from normal thanks to college football. $8.43 on Friday, $8.35 on Saturday and $6.54 on Sunday. With that adding of these sports fan sites, I hope to reach the $10/day Adsense goal I set a couple months back.

MySpace Bypass
The Proxy site I purchased, Myspace Bypass, on Friday has performed well over the last 3 days. So far I have earned $4.71 cents since I purchase it. Today will be the first full weekday I will have owned the site, so I am anxious to see the traffic and revenue I can make when people are in school and at work. I added about 10-15 proxy top sites to the bottom of the page to help increase traffic. I also plan on submitting this site to many, many proxy directories. At this pace, the site is earning me a little over $1 a day, which is what the original owner promised.

Thats the news for now. I will keep you updated daily with the launch of my 3 other sports sites.

My First Big Purchase

I have never been one to pay a lot of money for a website. In fact, I’ve never purchased a site for more than $15, and even then I still feel weird about buying them. I don’t know what it is, but I always feel like I’m making a mistake. Today, however, was different. I bought a site today for $130. I am usually so cheap, I can’t believe I did it. It took me like 4 hours to pull the trigger. I was debating back and forth on whether or not to make the purcahse.

So you may be wondering what site I bought. Well, that’s the funny part. I didn’t buy a normal content site. I bought a proxy site! It’s called MySpace Bypass I know, I know… some of you probably hate proxy sites, but I was told by a friend on MSN that proxy sites can be an easy way to earn a couple bucks a day. The big issue with owning proxy sites is finding a host that allows them. The previous owner agreed to host the site for me for free for 1 month. I can either use that time to find a new host or he will charge me $10/mo from there after. However, if the traffic increases he will charge more.

So let’s talk about the stats. At first I thought the stats were too good for this price, and if the stats hold up … then I got a hell of a deal. But honestly, do stats ever hold up after a sale of a site? No, for some reason they never do. So far this month the site has received 2500 uniques! That’s 300+ a day. The site is only a little over a month old. Traffic has been increasing a little bit every day. According to the revenue screenshots he sent me, the site makes anywhere from $0.50-$3.00 a day. It fluxuates depending on the days of the week. Proxy sites don’t make nearly as much money or have as much traffic on Weekends because people aren’t in school and work.

I plan on adding at least 15 more proxy top sites to my site. Hopefully this can bring in another 40+ uniques a day. Another way I plan to market this is through MySpace bulletins. I would love to spread the word on MySpace about this site to get all the kiddies in school aware of it. I will also add it to my MySpace Directory and Layout Pimps. This might bring in another 10-15 uniques a day. Ultimately the best way to promote this site is word of mouth.

I have my work cut out for me. I’m taking on an unfamiliar project. I’ve never owned a proxy site, and I’ve actually never really used one either. I figured the worst case scenerio is I can sell the site in a week or two for what I paid for it or more.

I will be doing A TON of updating to a lot of domains I haven’t mentioned here. So keep checking back this weekend as I fill you in on the progress.
