It’s been Awhile

I usually don’t go so many days without posting, but it’s been a BUSY week for me. Not busy with my sites, but busy because I am moving to a new condo. It’s only about 3-4 minutes from where I’m currently living, but it still sucks driving back and forth moving all my furniture and what not. It’s a 3 bedroom 2 bath condo, about 1500 sq ft, so it’s a nicve upgrade from my current 1 bedroom. My girlfriend of 2 1/2 years will be living with me as well, so it will be nice to have a bigger place with a study for the computers.

So far I have only been able to transfer 3 sites to my new vps. Normally it wouldn’t take so long, because there is an automated transfer utility in the webhost manager, however since all my sites were run from the same account and not a reseller, I can’t use this feature. I am scared to death of transferring Historum because it is such a big site and the database is HUGE. I practiced moving a forum a couple days ago by transferring PSUForum. It went smoothly.

Hopefully I will have the time this weekend to transfer the rest of my sites. The internet at my new home won’t be set up till tomorrow, so I will probably be without a computer for 1/2 day or more.

Other things I have going on this weekend is a trip to the beach house. After I’m done moving all Saturday morning I’m heading out to a beach just north of Vilano Beach where my family rents a beach house every year. It sucks that I happen to be moving at the same time, so I will only get to enjoy it for a day. Ahhh… the perks of living in Florida :-)

Site News
I have a couple things to mention about my sites. My sports highlights website, MVP Flix is doing great! It was indexed in Google the other day and is getting lots of uniques for different searches like “reggie bush highlights”, “michael jordan highlights”, and even “paul casey hole in one”. It surpassed 100 uniques yesterday, and I’m looking to get 150 today. Growing 50 uniques/day would be great! I’ll be at 1000/day in no time.

My buddy has been working on MySpace Tables and Celebrity Wallpapers. They are great myspace resource sites with all UNIQUE content. I don’t really help out much right now, but I try to find link exchanges and promote them whenever I can.

After all the drama with my proxy, I am finally getting the traffic back up to 900+ the last two days, and will surpass 1000 uniques today for sure.

Adsense Money
I received my Google direct deposit on Tuesday I think. It was for $120 from the month of August. I am extremely excited for my deposit coming next month. As of right now I’ve made $345 in the month of September with a day and a half left. I can’t wait for that check!

Well that’s it for now. Go Gators! Go Jags! and most importantly … Go Astros!!!

Switching to my VPS

I finally took the plunge and bought a nice VPS yesterday afternoon. It comes with 300 gb/bandwith per month, so it should be plenty to host all my sites and then some. I can finally dump hostgator and skyhighhost and have more control myself. I have purchased my VPS from Servint.com They were highly recommended to me and haven’t disappointed me yet. I have called their tech support twice, both times the phone was answer in 3 rings or less. I have also emailed their support twice, and had a response in less than 1 hour.

I am very noobish when it comes to hosting. My first step is creating an account for every site I have… about 10 or so. The next step is uploading all the files and databases to those accounts. Once I have all the files transferred to the new server, I need to create nameservers and edit them all in the registrar. This is the confusing part for me, but tech support gave me a great tutorial so I can give it a try as soon as I get home from work. Unfortunately, that won’t be till 9:00 PM !! I have to work overtime tonight. Ugh!

I plan on having all my sites uploaded and have the nameservers switched over by tomorrow night. Once everything looks good I can cancel hostgator and skyhigh, and make my new monthly payment of $49.99. Seems a little steep I know. But I think this is the next step in the growing process. Getting rid of shared hosting. By this time in a couple months I might very well own my own server or two. $49.99/month won’t really be that much considering I am making nearly $15/day in Adsense alone. Hopefully I can sustain or even increase that figure.

Down Time
Because of switch in hosting, there may be some down time on this blog. If everything goes perfect there won’t be any down time, but in my experience nothing ever goes according to plan. Since I don’t know what I’m doing, I’ll likely botch something up and cause some downtime. NO worries though, I will be back on here blogging as soon as I can.

New Site Launch

The weekend has come and gone, and now I’m back at the office. It sucks the Jaguars lost to the Colts on Sunday after such a dominating performance. But hey, that’s why they play the whole game. I’ve got a couple things to talk about today, so let’s get started.

  • New Site Launched
  • Adsense Earnings
  • Hosting Problems (still)
  • Space Tweaks

New Site Launched
I am officially launching my new website Sports Highlight Videos aka MVP Flix. MVPFlix.com is powered by wordpress. It allows me to post awesome sports highlight videos on a daily basis. So far I have uploaded maybe 7 or 8 videos ranging from Barry Bonds to skating to Reggie Bush. I am hoping this site will take off. It should market itself within the sports community. Once there is a large database, I hope people will link to my site whenever they are posting about a highlight video in a sports forum or something. I am going to register on several large sports forums and get this link in my signature to try and spread the word.

Some of the videos are awesome! It’s like watching ESPN Web Gems all day. Go check it out. I highly recommend the Hakeem Olajuwon video. You will not be disappointed!

Adsense Earnings
Yesterday marked the first day in like the last 10 days that I didn’t make over $10. I was close with $9.55. I blame the low earnings on the awful hosting problems I’ve had the last week. Everything was going great until then (but I’ll save that for the next section). So far this month I’ve pulled in $275 in Adsense dollars. In almost a year of web publishing I have never surpassed $125 in a month, let alone $275 or the $300+ it will be by September 30th. This is a great sign for things to come. Now I just need to add more sites ot my network to increase my earnings.

Hosting Problems (still)
Yes, I am still having hosting problems. Almost everyday I sign on MSN and talk to the people I know and ask them if they can view Myspace Bypass. Its good because I have friends spread out over the world. For some, the site works fine and for others it doesn’t. On Friday is was broken for me here at work, but when I went to my parents house after work, the proxy was working fine! It’s so annoying to have an awful host. But what can you do when you can’t afford $100/month for a dedicated server?

Space Tweaks
Myspace Tweaks has been doing great lately in terms of traffic. We’ve been getting over 1,400 and 1,500 uniques a day on a consistent basis. The only problem is the revenue isn’t going up. With that kind of traffic you have to think the site should be making around $10/day, however it’s only been making $4-5. We’re using Yahoo Ads on it, because the main owner of the site was banned from Google. I think once we get the ad targeting figured out, we should see our earnings go up.

Well that’s about it for today. Have a great day and don’t forget to stop by my new Sports Highlight Videos site!

Importing to Wordpress

All my other blogs run on Wordpress, so I don’t know why I’ve been keeping my personal blog on Blogger. My biggest beef right now is that I can’t get the archive to work. That hurts a lot. I know when I look at other bloggers (specifically the ones on my friends list), I usually look through their archive, especially when it’s my first visit. It’s great to look for posts from the past so you can track progress or find specific information. Without an archive, I feel like this blog is worthless.

Hopefully the import feature on Wordpress will import the archive, even though it isn’t really here. That’s the biggest problem. I have all the posts on my server, so I might have to re upload them manually if the import feature doesn’t work.

I plan on switching this blog to Wordpress within a week or so. Basically whenever I have time.

Hosting Issues
I know now why people are ALWAYS getting rid of and selling proxy sites. They are a pain in the ass! Something was up with my host the past day or so, and Myspace Bypass wasn’t working properly. The script was running fine, but when you tried to browse a site it would just time out and give you an error. I checked the site this morning, and everything seemed to be working properly.

It’s actually funny how I found out it wasn’t working. I noticed my Adsense earnings for that site skyrocketing! The CTR was going up and up, while traffic stayed the same. I knew something was wrong. My earnings were going over $20/day for that site by itself! I found out about the problem, and quickly emailed Adsense Support to let them know about the problem. I did not want to get banned because of a spike in CTR and earnings. People were getting timed out on my site, and probably got frustrated and just clicked on my ads to leave my site. While my earnings did go up, it is not faithful to run ads on a broken site, and it can get you banned.

Anyways, things are looking better for my host now. So hopefully the site will continue to work and increase earnings the right way, by having more traffic.

Fan Site Updates
I have been able to secure about 5 link exchanges for Joe Mauer fan site. I browsed the internet for other Minnesota Twins bloggers and emailed them for exchanges. My work is hardly done on this site. I feel like I can find maybe 15-20 more bloggers to get link exchanges from. Traffic hit 80 uniques yesterday because of the link exchanges and earnings were $2.50.

Joe Mauer has been my priority with my fan sites, but I have not forgot about Randy Moss and Ryan Howard. I have been posting on those sites daily, I have just not been promoting them or finding link exchanges for them yet. One blog at a time. I’ll let the content build up, and hopefully Google will pick up all the articles.

Over $200 this Month
I have officially passed over $200 in earnings this month on Adsense. As of right now with 9 days left in the month I am at $221.00, the most I’ve ever earning in a single month. With a LOT of hard work I might be able to reach $300. What a month this has been. Will it continue? Hopefully so!

Jaguars Shuout the Steelers

I love football, and by reading this blog you can probably tell that I am a huge Jaguar fan. I have season tickets, so of course I was at the Monday Night Football game last night vs the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jaguars defensive completely manhandled the Steelers. The Steelers only cross the 50 yard line 1 time in the entire game and that was on their very first drive. It was great smashmouth football. What a game to go to. What a game to win.

I have a couple things going on with my sites, but no new major advancements:

  • Ryan Howard Fan Site
  • Adsense Goal
  • Back Burner
  • Pet Cookies

Ryan Howard Fan Site
Along with my Joe Mauer Fan Site and Randy Moss Fan Site I have almost complete my third fan site for Philadelphia Phillies 1st baseman, Ryan Howard. I was able to get a great domain, in my opinion, in ryanhoward.info. Ryan Howard leads the major leagues in home runs and rbi’s, and could be this year’s NL MVP. He will be a star in baseball for a decade or more. I still have to upload some pictures, fix the contact info, and upload some more content before the site is really ready to go. But like the other two, this site is going to be loaded with unique blog posts on a daily basis written by me.

Adsense Goal
For 5 days in a row now I have surpassed $10/day in Adsense earnings, and I really don’t see this cooling down anytime soon. My original goal when I started this blog was to have at least $10/day by December 31st. Well, if my earnings continue for another few days I am going to officially declare myself ‘achiever of my goals.’ There is some controversary that goes into this though. I did not earn all the money by building it myself. My biggest earner is a site that I purchased, Myspace Bypass for $130. As of right now have have already earned back exactly half of my initial purchase of the site. By mid October I will have earned $130 from the site , and from that point on it will all be profit, except the small hosting fees. So I’m not sure if I can say I achieved my goals just yet, because I had to buy a site to get there.

Back Burner
I mentioned in some earlier posts about working on a project with a friend not in the business. I still believe this project has great potential, however we’ve pushed it to the back burner. I don’t know why, but neither of us can really find some time to get this site off the ground.

Another site I put on the back burner was one I was working on with Andreas Bard, a fellow web entrepreneur. We have both been caught up in our own projects to work on a shared one. That is the problem when you work with a partner. If you both aren’t fully committed, then the work suffers.

Pet Cookies
The final topic of the day is a new site I am launching. It is called Pet Cookies. You can buy really cheap pet treat and cookie recipes. Why buy your pet unhealthy treats from the store, when you can make gourmet treats at home? Pet Cookies comes with tons of recipes for dog and cat treats. I’ve had the domain for this site for a couple months, I just never got around to developing it. Petcookies.net is a great domain in my opinion. Martketing this site will be hard. I wonder if spending $25 on Adwords would result in enough sales to cover the initial advertising cost?

Until tomorrow….

Weekend Updates

I rarely post on weekends, but just wanted to let everyone know I was able to sell Easy Golf Tips for $360 this morning. I was happy and a little bummed at the same time. I was happy because $360 is a lot of money, and a lot more than I thought I would get, but I was a little upset to see that I had a $400 offer in my PM box that came a few hours after the BIN $360 bid came in the thread. Rather than compromise my stellar Digital Point reputation for $40, I sold the site to the rightful winner.

The new owner of the site also asked me how much I would charge to write him a few more articles for the golf site. Writing about golf is very easy for me, so I would have no problem writing a couple 350 word articles for him for maybe $10 a piece.

I guess while I’m here I’ll let you know adsense earnings are down today from the two previous days of $16+. This is expected though because proxy sites do not get much action on weekends.

Speaking of my proxy site… what the hell is SkyHighHost doing!!!!!????? I purchased a hosting account from them on Friday morning and it is still not set up! I have sent a support ticket, emails, and MSN messages. Always NO RESPONSE! This company is awful! I’ve pretty much accepted the fact that they probably stole my money and I’m not going to get hosting. Back to the message boards to find a new host.

If anyone knows the owner of SkyHighHost.com please tell them to set up my account! It shouldn’t take 48 hours.
